NBC Dropped Some Great GREAT News For IndyCar This Morning
Hell yes!
First the announcement of the IndyCar video game last week that will drop in 2023 and now this. Some much needed hype and promo while IndyCar continues it's 4-week summer break hiatus. I'm loving the momentum.
13 races on NBC. The big NBC. The Howard Stern w-Nnnnnn-B-C. National television audience for anyone who has bunny ears in their house. This is coming off a five year high in ratings for the Indy 500 this past May and then followed that up by 4th of July's noon start time at Mid-Ohio that was the most watched IndyCar race ever on NBC outside of the 500.
All this leading up to the inaugural Music City GP in the streets of downtown Nashville when they will be "racing over a friggin' bridge" as my pal James Hinchcliffe so eloquently put it. Very, very exciting times for IndyCar. The young stars in this series are phenomenal. Josef Newgarden, the all-American boy with movie star looks, and is the active leader in wins for an American driver. He's only 30. Colton Herta, the young gun California rockstar (literally) who comes from a racing family, and is the youngest driver ever to win an IndyCar race at the ripe age of 19. He just turned 21. Rinus VeeKay, the Flying Dutchman 2.0, isn't even 21 yet and the personality on this dude is outstanding.
He and Herta both started in the front row in the 2021 Indy 500.
My buddy Conor Daly, the homegrown hero out of Indianapolis who hasn't hit 30 yet either, and has already found himself on reality television and is a regular hanging with Travis Pastrana. Then of course you have Alexander Rossi. The random wonder who coasted his way to winning the 100th running of the Indy 500 back in 2016, finished 2nd in 2019, has seven career wins, 24 podiums, and has the icy personality of the villain IndyCar needs.
That's all without even mentioning young Pato O'Ward and Alex Palou who currently are the 1-2 in the standings heading down the back stretch of the circuit. The arrow is only going up, and Nashville can't come soon enough.
Green, Green, Green!!
